Chill Out

Yeh yeh so ages since last post again. Been b-u-s-y. With what? Music mainly. And kung fu of course but this blog is about music so less of the fu and more of the beats.

We have been working in groups in our Digital Music Design lecture. Our group has ended up making an ambient track, which has been great for me as this kind of thing is floating around my head a lot right now, I am reading "Oceans Of Sound" by David Toop which is highly recommended to anyone interested in interesting music. It is a great history of ambient music, going way back to 18th century stuff coming over to Europe from the Far East through to people like Sun Ra, Miles Davies, Eno (of course), Stockhausen etc etc. The book is an EDUCATION in its own right. I may buy it so I have my own copy to keep.

Anyway, our track samples Santana guitars drums and atmospheres, Jose James keys, some random Portugese female vocal, jazzy piano and 1950s radio broadcasts. The idea is for it be music to fall asleep to. Inspiration from the likes of.......

Have recently been working on some other solo production stuff, http://www.sendspace.com/file/ty7xnv">a funk remix of "Sexual Healing" and a kind of electro robo funk track (that isn;t quite ready yet). Also, for Sound and Image module I am working on a 2 minute clip from the Clone Wars cartoon, of Mace Windu fighting a bunch of robots. I have to do the sound design for the piece, so sound effects and any music. Really interesting researching it (being a complete Star Wars geek) plus I am doing a hip hop Star Wars tune to go with it. Sweet.

Other projects are helping try to get the uni radio station going, setting up a food co-op (non musical!) and buying a lot of old vinyl. I am also the proud owner of some 2nd hand 1200s........haaaappppppyyyyyy
